Scratchwood Town, the new town (like Milton Keynes, but with less concrete cows), often the place of strange goings on, UFO sightings, governmental ministers going missing, artillery shellings...it's all in a days work for the people of this town.

Unsurprisingly, house prices are quite low.... Laughing

*A helicopter carrying Matt, Electricfox, Charlie, Ali, Tim, Derek and Kapitin Balowski heads over the plains that lead into the south suburbs of Scratchwood Town*

Charlie: Where are going exactly?
Electricfox: Scratchwood HeliPort is just to the north east of the town limits. We'll be landing there.
Matt: And when we get back, we sell the helicopter for big money!
Electricfox: Oh dear god...
Tim: Just out the question, why are we flying around the town centre?
Charlie: I think we're not allowed directly through Scratchwood Town Centre.
Electricfox: Why yes.
*The helicopter flies above the station where the signalbox has a small hole in the roof and there is receding flood water to the north of Scratchwood station and only the track nearest to the station*

Electricfox: Least there'll be a respite... for now anyways.
Charlie: Thank god for that.
Balowski: Thank it zat ze Amierkans are merciful in terms of wetness komrade. It changes nothing though, ze Amerikans are still around.
Electricfox: Didn't take much for that...
Derek: IT IS BEST YOU CON-CEN-TRATE ON STEER-ING THE HELI-COP-TER BEFORE YOU HIT THE BIG SKY-SCRA-PER IN THE MID-DLE OF THE EARTH CI-TY!
Electricfox: Fair enough... what skyscraper?
Charlie: *cough*Mine*cough*
Ali: What?
Charlie: Nothin', just got a cough.
Matt: Right...
*The copter flies around the northern edge of Scratchwood Town Centre towards the heliport on the north-east of the town*

Electricfox: I request one helicopter to land at Scratchwood Heliport.
Heliport Control: State your intent.
Electricfox: Charter Flight. I got permission from East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport control towers.
Heliport Control: You only needed Birmingham's. Permission allowed.
Electricfox: Thanks.

*The helicopter lands on the pad, in the shadow of the WOTW memorial on the nearby Common and behind the east development and the skyscrapers in the town centre*

Heliport Worker: Where do you want this helicopter stored?
Electricfox: Underground Hangar 3 preferably.
Heliport Worker: Okay sir. Thank you for visiting the heliport.
*The keys are handed over and the gang walk south-west towards the station via the town centre*

*The staff walk down the strrets past the American Bar on High Street and onto the Midland Plaza*

Matt: Wouldn't want to live or work up there...
Charlie: Obviously you ain't been on top of the Empire State Building.
Matt: Neither have you!
Charlie: I know, but I've been up there... *Indicates Midland Tower*
Derek: SCANS DE-TECT LE-THAL SUB-STAN-CES UN-DER-GROUND!
Electricfox: Shut up pepperpot!
Charlie: Yeah...
Member of Public: I'm with the shify signalman. Pepperpot!
Derek: RA-CIST BA-STARD!
Electricfox: Who, me or the public person?
Derek: MEH. EI-THER WAY!
Charlie: Oh for god sake...

*The gang walk across the plaza around the edges of the skyscraper*

Matt: So, there's the long winding road to the station.
Charlie: Isn't Rivertown underwater?
Electricfox: Nah, they drained that during the week.
Charlie: Good.
Matt: So, we don't need a boat to get over the bridge and past the chav prison.
Electricfox: Indeed.

The SkyWood building, Scratchwood...

Charlie: Excuse me...
Landlord: Ah, the head of C&X and PA announcer at Scratchwood Station. What do you want?
Charlie: I'm heading for the top floor, mate.
Landlord: Why?
Charlie: I'm beginning to wonder myself...
*Walks into the lift and presses a button for the top floor of the 9-story building. At the top, walks out into a window which shows a view towards the Midlands junction and the 30-story skyscraper in the middle*
Charlie: One day, the plans will be in action... but now, I've got a runaway to collect.
*Heads for the penthouse block. Walks up to Penthouse 4 and knocks on the door*

Charlie: Ali!
Ali: Yeah?
Charlie: What are you doing?
Ali: I'm playing MS Flight Sim. Why?
Charlie: The one for Electricfox, right?
Ali: Yeah, why?
Charlie: I'm taking it over to him. Give it to me.
Ali: Hold on... BALOWSKI!
Balowski: Da, komrade.
Ali: That's not my game. It's Electricfox's.
Matt: Oh.

*Ali hands Charlie the game. Charlie walks back to the lift, game in tow*

*Domino, Sky and Electricfox walk up to a large warehouse, Electricfox cranks open the door.*

Electricfox: "Here we go...time to fire her up again..."
Domino: "What is that thing?"
Electricfox: "Hey! Don't be so rude. That 'thing' is an AH-64 Apache gunship."
Domino: "Looks kinda odd..."
Electricfox: "Says the woman with the mechanical dinosaurs..."
Domino: "You leave my baby out of this!"
Sky: "Rrrr?"

*Electricfox pulls the Apache out of the warehouse and onto the road outside, he then clears away the equipment and gets into the cockpit.*

Domino: "What shall I do?"
Electricfox: "Take the Geno south...we'll rendezvous at Torchwood tower, then see where Matt has gone now and head out there."
Domino: "Right...hey...what's that sound?"
Electricfox: "Hmmm?"

*AC/DC's Hells Bells begins playing.*
Electricfox: "Oh! MP3 player!"
*Electricfox gives a thumbs up and then shoos Domino away from the helicopter as he finishes the check list and shuts the cockpit, locking the door handles down, tugging on his harness to make sure he's secure. Then he starts the rotors.*

Domino: (waving) "Take care!!"

*Electricfox gives her a salute from in the cockpit and then gently lifts the AH64 off the ground, giving it a quick flick left and right on the tail rotor to check all is well and then takes off and heads south.*

*The AH64 flies over the hangars and the Genosaurer before landing nearby.*

Domino: "What took you so long?"
Electricfox: (removes helmet) "Air traffic out of central, like you wouldn't believe."
Domino: "Cool...did you see Keab on your way out?"
Electricfox: "Nope, isn't he back yet?"
Domino: "Not yet...he did text me...something about Richard Branson."
Electricfox: "The mind boggles...come on, let's get these two packed away and head back to the station."
Sky: "Rrr?"
Electricfox: "You've still got that?"
Domino: "Yeah..."
Electricfox: "I thought you were leaving it at Torchwood one?"
Domino: "I can't leave him! He's my baby!!"
Electricfox: (Sighs) "Great...more alien stuff...well...just, make sure he doesn't cause any trouble, alright?"
Domino: (looking sheepish) "Alright..."

*The pair put the Genosaurer and Apache away.*

Scratchwood Military Airfield

*Electricfox steps out of the Cross-Town bus which has stopped on a nearby street. After a brisk walk, he arrives on the grounds of the airfield where Charlie is waiting.*

Charlie: Hey, Electricfox. Bit much we've been called to do this.
Electricfox: Yeah. Still, at least Balowski doesn't know anything about this.
Charlie: True. Right, how we getting to New York then?
Electricfox: We maybe called in for an air strike. Best take on of the supersonic bomber jets.
Keab42: Okay.
*Electricfox groans.*
Electricfox: What's he doing here?
Charlie: What, him? He *coughs* insisted.
Electricfox: Fine. At least these are double seated.

*Charlie and Electricfox head over to a pair of waiting supersonic airplanes. After showing relevant passes, the two board and prepare for the flight.*

Electricfox: Permission from Scratchwood Control?
Charlie: Positive. We are cleared for take off.

*The plane driven by Electricfox proceeds to Runway Alpha. After a short kick to life, the plane soon accelerates over the end and into the sky. Soon, Charlie's aircraft follows the same procedures.*

Charlie: Mantain steady altitude. Keep oxygen mask in good position, you will need it to mantian at the speed and altitude.
Electricfox: Okay. Oh, and Keab's with me.
Charlie: Fair enough.
*The two aircraft soar west towards South West England.*
Charlie: So, we're landing at...
Electricfox: Essex County Airport.
Charlie: Where's that?
Electricfox: Quite near to New York.
Charlie: Not bad really...

*The rooftop and blinking light on the Midland Tower skyscraper soon vanishs as the aircraft head west, flying over the British countryside at about 200mph.*

*With flaps and gear down, the F-14 descends to Scratchwood TAFB.*

Keab42: "100."
Electricfox: "Throttling back to 25."
Keab42: "60."
Electricfox: "Bringing nose up..."
Keab42: "30...20...10..."

*A dull thump shudders through the cockpit.*

Electricfox: "Touchdown...engaging brakes."

Tower: "This is Scratchwood TAFB...take the first exit on your left and proceed to hangar five."
Electricfox: "This is Eagle One...Roger that."

Electricfox: "That wasn't as tricky as I feared."
Keab42: "Yeah, at least we were able to intercept them in time."
Electricfox: "Yup...unless those aliens can survive fire, a ten thousand foot drop, an impact on water that'd feel like concrete...and of course being shot down in the middle of some of the coldest waters around...I don't think we'll see those guys again."
Keab42: "Thank god for that."
Electricfox: "Perhaps now I can finally get back to being a signalman."
Keab42: "In this place?"
Electricfox: "A guy can dream can't he?"

*The F-14 arrives at the taxi-way and spools down, Electricfox and Keab42 jump out, check around the aircraft and then takes a taxi-buggy out of the TAFB and then back to Scratchwood Junction.*

*A Class 20 arrives at Scratchwood South Junction where the ECML/MML lines join the GCML. Charlie and Electricfox jump out and see a bit of a mess.*

Charlie: What the?
Electricfox: Oh no... I think here's why we never let Ali signal.

*The 1804 Bounds Green - Liverpool Lime Street ECS movement hauled by a Class 47 diesel cend up on it's side blocking the GCML lines. The first MK2 carriage has ended up in the embankment in-between the WCML and GCML connections and the next four carriages have come off the rails. The previous 3 carriages are still upright.*

Charlie: Never let Ali take control of the signals unless he retakes his exam. Okay?
Electricfox: I wish it was that easy...

*All signals around are red, with stopped trains in the background.*

*Charlie can see a crane trying to lift a MK2 out of the Indian Pride curryhouse when Ali shakenly makes his way to the rescue platform.*

Ali: I can explain...
Charlie: No you can't! Why did you change the points TWICE under the train?
Ali: I only changed the points the first time be... because I pulled the wrong lever. I pulled it back and the next thing I knew there was a derailment.
Charlie: How valid do you think I'm going to think that is?
Ali: Er.. not at all?
Charlie: Correct. Now do something useful and try to operate... oh no wait maybe not.
Ali: What did you have in mind?
Charlie: Operating the breakdown train. I think I'll go get Chris.
Ali: The yard's on the other side of the station!
Charlie: No, he's in the resturant.
Ali: Which one?
Charlie: The one where there's a MK2 sticking out the roof.

*Charlie looks around - the lights of a 225 turning round, the aircraft warning light crowning Midland Tower skyscraper, the platform lights for the arriving WestCoast sleeper, the lights during the match at Kingsfields Stadium.*
Ali: Right, Chris is currently eating a chicken korma though he's nearly done.
Charlie: That's a relief. Go on, enter the resturant.
*Ali enters the doors and goes over to ask Chris for help.*
Charlie: I wonder if he'll go ahead.
*Watches the 2105 Euston - Aberdeen/Inverness/Fort William sleeper arrive into Platform 2.*

*There is a flash of blue light in a side alley in Scratchwood Town Centre. Charlie steps onto the Midland Plaza where an orangey blue flame with a huge crackling noise can be seen spurting up to Floor 14 of the building.*

Charlie: What the hell has happened?

*Charlie heads around the electric-flame into the entrance lobby of the 30-story skyscraper.*

Charlie: What's going on?
Secretary: About 5 minutes ago, there was a huge explosion in the energisation labs. The technicians are currently trying to keep the flame under control.
Charlie: I'm heading down there.

*Charlie rushes into the staircase which leads to the sub-basement. Here, there is a corridor with a door marked 'Energisation Chamber One' with a blue-orange flame spurting a huge flaming mass from a capsule with a small chink of light which which shows the bodypanels of the skyscraper. There is a team of 23 technicians frantically attempting to keep the flame under control.*

Charlie: What's going on?
Technician: There was an explosion in the A Capsule which fed off Capsules B and C and is now leaping out of the ground towards the top floor.
Charlie: Obviously the day can be bought forward.
Technician: We all know the day will come, but this is to early. Do you know what is happening?
Technician: No.
Charlie: I think I do... and a certain little Russian needs a visit... Anyway, were does the strange power cell lead?
Technician: It leads under Rivertown, the railway engine sheds and the military airfield. There's rumour a similar cell leads here from Cardiff.
Charlie: Anyway, can you keep it under control? It's too early, the day of conquering isn't to come until we become more powerful and prominent. This has totally screwed our attempts to takeover Northern Rock and Citigroup. We're not a worldwide group for nothing...

*There is an explosion. Charlie falls backwards.*

Computer: Diverting extinguishing supplies to Energisation Chamber One. Evacuation of upper floors.
Charlie: Ah. The procedure.
Technician: RED ALERT! RED ALERT! The rift is ripping.
Charlie: I think I know where this is coming from, but we can't use teleport. I think that's why the energy gaps are combusting in this way.
Technician: If we don't stop, then time and space will rip apart.
Charlie: Relax. We're nearing the end. But we realise when we stop this will leave a scar on the land.
Technician: Indeed.

*Desperation is made to try and keep the huge tear under control. There is a ring.*

VideoPhone Link: Torchwood on the line.
Charlie: Yes. Put them on vidscreen.
*The head of Torchwood Four is on the line.*
Torchwood 4 Head: What is going on down there?
Charlie: One of your agents has generated the trouble. We could have a rip apperar stretching across Scratchwood Town Centre.
Torchwood 4 Head: I'm declaring emergency. Evacuate Scratchwood and try to keep this under control.
Charlie: What do you think we're doing?
Torchwood 4 Head: Nothing by the looks of it.
Charlie: Anyway, we've got to try this. We'll ring you up if this ends.
Torchwood 4 Head: But if it doesn't...
Charlie: I don't know... Bye.
Torchwood 4 Head: Right, bye.
*Call ends and attention quickly turns to the struggle.*

*Charlie and the head technician climb onto the roof of the 6 story sub-building to the Midland Tower. Only 10 of the 30 stories remain, though most of the blast-proof central frame is still standing to the base of the black hole form on Floor 14.*

Charlie: We've got a hell of a load of people to ring.
Technician: Who?
Charlie: The Stock Exchange, Torchwood, Northern Rock, Citigroup, building firms, the quarry... I could go on all night.
Technician: True. I'll take Torchwood and the two firms you mentioned.
Charlie: Indeed. I'll call the Stock Exchanges in London and New York later.
Technician: Excellent.

*The technician moves to the lower floors. Charlie sits on the becnch trying to make out the building.*
Charlie: Let's see... phone book for Newcastle. Where is it... Cramlington.. Bilozz. That's it. *Charlie dials the quarry.* Hello?
Quarry: Hello, Bilozz Quarry.
Charlie: This is C&X Group. Listen, the force of a black hole from a rift ripped through the upper 20 stories of our building. We need to re-mine for the amount we can't use.
Quarry: How much is that?
Charlie: There's 4 stories worth of usable Bilozz so we need enough for the amount above Floor 18.
Quarry: How?
Charlie: The Bilozz framework can be seen where Floor 14 was.
Quarry: Ah. Right, it should arrive over stages by October 13th.
Charlie: Brilliant. Bye.
Quarry: Bye.

*Charlie dials London Stock Exchange.*
LTSE: London Stock Exchange - the world's busiest currency changer.
Charlie: This is CharlieRC, the enigmatic head of the Class & eXcellene or C&X Group. Informations needs to be disclosed.
LTSE: Go ahead.
Charlie: Firstly, the takeovers of Northern Rock and Citigroup are off. And secondly, C&X are withdrawing. All shares are owned by C&X Staff Members so it won't be too much of a problem.
LTSE: Okay. If you wish to re-register, you are welcome to at any time.
Charlie: Great. Bye.
LTSE: Bye.

*Charlie decides to walk away, not noticing the media wagons pulling up into Scratchwood Central station which connects onto the Midland Plaza, covered in skyscraper deribs and a land scar which stretches all the way to Platform 3 in Junction station.*

*Electricfox hits a button on his PDA and TW1 staggers back up from the river.*

Electricfox: "Matt!! Change the access codes! Quick! Reboot the software!!"

*The Genosaurer and King Leviathan stagger back up.*

Electricfox: "So...he wants to play dirty, does he?"

Keab: "Sensors indicate he's hidden in the tower."

Electricfox: "The coward...right...relay Ion Cannon control to my machine."

*Electricfox taps in a few controls, powering up the control relays on the orbiting Ion Cannon and then selecting its target.*

*The Midland Tower is enveloped in a beam of blue light which shatters the brickwork and melts any metal it touches, vaporising a significant portion of the tower in its first shot.*

Electricfox: "Keab...Opening barrage!"

*The King Leviathan opens up with its missile battery, the 48 missile salvo streaking across the town and impacting on the tower, heavily damaging the rest of the outer structure.*

Electricfox: "CHAAAAARGE!!"

*The King Leviathan, Torchwood One and the Genosaurer spring into action charging at full speed towards the tower.*
